Port of Mobile ICTF New Construction Project

Mobile , AL

Queen City is building the railroad track portion of the new Port of Mobile Intermodal Container Transfer Facility, which will include the construction of two operating tracks, a run-around track and a car repair siding track – each at least 3,000 ft in length. Queen City is providing construction services to demo and remove existing track, build over 16,000 ft of track on steel ties, install 6 new No. 10 turnouts on steel and wood ties, perform field welding, construct public and yard concrete and asphalt grade crossings, construct and install derails and install end of track devices.

This fast-paced project required detailed coordination with multiple different contractors working closely in the same areas. Despite weather delays to the earthwork scope, Queen City was able to fast track the railroad construction scope and is still on schedule to complete the project on the original completion date. The material for this project was purchased through DBE vendors to obtain the require DBE participation set forth by the state for this project. When complete, the new construction of the ICTF will position the port’s terminal to receive the larger locks that will come through the Panama Canal and will allow the port to handle international containers as well as domestic container cargo – connecting to five Class I railroads.
